Alberta Open

The prestigious Alberta Open Tournament starts on October 10th 2026, and will be held in Calgary at the Best Western Premier Plaza, 1316 33 St NE - not at CCC.  This is an ACA event.  CCC is not involved in the registration or organization so you cannot register on our website or at CCC.  Please register at https://www.calgaryjuniorchess.com/CJCC/event/event/54891.  Early registration discounts are available.  ACA is encouraging more juniors to particpate in this larger venue.  For adults the same events will be available as in previous years.  Please support ACA's and Alex Nguyen's drive to push for more chess participation in Calgary.

Welcome

The Calgary Chess Club is the premier chess club in Calgary, and was established over 60 years ago.  It boasts almost 300 paid members and over 3,000 followers on Facebook.  We appreciate the support of the AGLC arm of the Alberta Government and the City of Calgary (as we are a non-profit).

It offers regular get-togethers, lessons, and structured competitive events, and is a registered member of national and international chess governing bodies. Our library is one of the finest and largest in Canada.  Our objective is to provide a pleasant facility for players and parents, that is conducive to improving the skill level of our members in a fun and enjoyable enviroment.  We are eager to raise the profile of the game in schools and the larger community, and will work together with such organizations.

Hours of Operation

The Calgary Chess Club is open most weekday nights, and some weekends for large tournaments.

Tuesday           Classic Chess Tournament night                             7:00pm to 10:30pm     Most tournaments last 5 consecutive Tuesdays.

Wednesday      Chess Classes with Paul Gagne (must pre-pay)     6:30pm to 08:30pm     New 6-week Course started on 2026Sep02.

Thursday          Rapid Chess 10/5 - $5 cash at the door                  7:00pm to 10:00pm     Restarted on 2026Sep03.

Friday               Open House and Family Social                               7:00pm to 10:00pm     Will be closed on 2026Nov20 for Southern Alberta Open Round-1

Weekend Tournaments
