Name:       Calgary Chess Club Championship 2026

Dates:        Friday, July 24, 2026 – Sunday, July 26, 2026. 5 Rounds.

Format:     Swiss, 5-rounds, Classic 90/30 (game in 90 minutes plus 30 seconds/move),

                   CFC and FIDE rated

Entry Fees:  Regular Adult $49, Junior (U20) $44, includes an $8 admin fee.

                       If paid more than 24 hours ahead (i.e., before 10:00 am on Thursday, 

                       July 23), the admin fee is waived, making Earlybird Adult $41, Junior $36.

   Regular Titled Players: IM/FM: $1, NM/CM: $21, but only if paid more than 

   24-hours ahead.

Eligibility:    Current CFC (Canadian Chess Federation) and CCC memberships 

                       are both required.

Prizes:          CCC guarantees Premier Section prizes to be at least $200.

 Ratings:     The TD reserves the right to move players up or down, depending on numbers, parity, etc.

                   The CFC database updates weekly by Friday.  CCC may use ratings as of Friday, July 24, 2026.

TD Rules and Procedures:

1.    The TD will not accept promises !! of attendance or payment.

2.     The TD reserves the right to promote a CFC-unrated Player to the Premier Section, e.g., if the Player holds an appropriate FIDE rating or a high chess.com (or equivalent) rating.

3.     To request a bye and receive a half-pt (max twice but not in the last round), contact the TD before the draw is made - usually 2-3-days ahead, or at TD discretion.

4.     No-show default time is 30-minutes, but if a player contacts the TD, an extra 15 minutes may be allowed at TD discretion.

5.     If no contact within 2-Rounds, the TD will assume the Player has withdrawn and will not pair the player.  No payments will be refunded.

6.     TD has the right to eject any Player who violates CCC’s posted Zero Tolerance Policy.

7.      TD /Organizer may merge both the sections (Premier and Future Master) into a single section. 

8.     In case of Tied first Cash prize will be split but Winner will be declared based on ACA Tie 

CCC Membership:   Required.  

Purchase of Entry Fees and/or CCC Membership:  May be made:

         via the website https://CalgaryChess.com/CCC/Events, or

         via Etransfer to Payments@CalgaryChess.com, password = Excellence, or

         Cash

 CFC Membership:  Required, but CCC does not accept payments for CFC.  If necessary, join/renew CFC membership online at https://www.chess.ca/en/players/membership-join/.  The annual fee is Adult $43, Junior $28.  Alternatively, a CFC single-tournament membership is Adult $20, Junior $10.

If a Player joined or renewed at CFC in the previous 10 days, TD may require proof (e.g., screenprint).

 Prizes: will be the sum of entry fees less:

1.       CFC rating fees

2.       TD fees

3.       CCC overhead charge of upto 10% to cover supplies, and payment processing fees

4.       CCC snacks.

Notwithstanding, CCC guarantees the net prize pool for the Premier Section will be at least $200.  The Future Masters prizes will be calculated accordingly.

Ties:
 For most tournaments, ties do not need need to be resolved.  However, for some tournaments, usually involving a title, a trophy, a qualification to a later event, or a subsidy for future travel, ties must be resolved.  These Tie Break procedures, applied in order, will determine a single winner.
1.            Head-to-head (if all those tied played each other).
2.            Buchholz (sum of all scores of opponents).
3.            Buchholz cut 1 (sum of all scores of opponents except the lowest point scorer).
4.            Sonneborn-Berger
                  (sum of all scores of opponents won against and half the scores of opponents drawn).
5.            Most wins.
6.            Most games with Black.
7.            Draw of Lots.
