Dan Kazmaier

chess_reykjavik2014I’ve been playing competitive chess since 2001, with a CFC rating peak at 2336.

Through the years I’ve loved the experience of meeting new people in new places – playing across Canada and a few times in the States/Europe has expanded my worldview and given me international tournament exposure. Some of my most memorable tournaments is winning the WCN Juniors in Las Vegas (2004), and Grade 12 Nationals in New Brunswick (2006).

I started¬†Chess4Kids in 2010 to tutor local juniors and direct a 1-week chess camp for three consecutive summers. I’m very proud of their progress, including one who won the national Gold Award in the 2011 Elaine Howie¬†Fund.

Practically, I think the learning process goes beyond improving opening/middlegame/endgame patterns, so lesson plans incorporate affirming the student and improving his or her approach to playing a game under different tournament situations. Apart from both of us enjoying the royal game, homework is assigned based on a student’s goals and desire for improvement.

I’m taking in new students (adults and juniors) in fall 2015. If you’d like to inquire about lesson rates and packages, please contact me at dan.kazmaier@gmail.com!
