Dates:  Tuesdays January 13th to February 24th, 2015

Location: Calgary Chess Club

Type:  Two sections

  1. CLOSED  Top 8 players by CFC or FIDE rating (whichever is higher) Round Robin
  2. RESERVES  5 Round Swiss
  3. ACTIVE 4 Round Swiss

Closed section will be CFC and FIDE rated.

ACA Tie-Break Policy for Closed Section:

a) Direct encounter
b) The greater number of wins
c) Sonneborn-Berger (Total points of opponents you beat plus half the points of opponents you drew).
d) Koya System (Only count the points that you scored against opponents that scored at least 50%)
e) Games played with Black
f) Blitz match with time control of 5 minutes and 3 seconds increment per side played immediately after the last round of the competition. Tied players will play each other with alternating colours. If a match is still tied after the first mini-match, they will repeat the procedure until someone wins.

CLOSED Winner receives $200 travel expenses to any tournament, to be used by Dec 31, 2015

RESERVES Winner receives free entry to next two club tournaments plus entry to the Calgary International Reserves section.

Time Control:

90min for game + 30 second increment

Round Times: Round 1 Jan 13, 2015 7:30 PM; Rounds 2-7 subsequent Tuesdays 7:15 PM.  Due to minimal participation, the Reserves section will become a 5 round Swiss, plus 4 additional rounds of active chess (25 min + 10 sec).

Byes: Only for RESERVES section, Maximum 2 half point byes available in first 6 rounds, if notified before start of round.  Byes in final round will be 0 points.  Byes will NOT count for prizes.

Entry Fee: GMs, IMs, Free.  Adults $40 Juniors $30
